Silverstone – Rounds 1&2

Plagued by a few technical issues was the best way of describing our first weekend of racing with the new Yamaha set-up.

Sadly lacking in power during our first run on Friday we discovered that despite working correctly during testing the inlet servo motor had chosen that moment to fail. This severely restricted top end revs/power, which in-turn meant we where 20+mph short on top speed!

Having found a sort of ‘work-around’ for race two, James went out with more power but was soon getting a high oil temperature warning so began short shifting to avoid any potential damage.

Confession time…after much head scratching and just a few minutes looking at the data we have realised that having one of the oil temperature sensor so close to the exhaust was probably not such a good idea even when its behind a heat shield!

In summary…We finished both races, got a few points and discovered a lot….the handling with theĀ  newer Pirelli tyres has definitely improved, neutral with better ‘feel’ than previously, the Yamaha has more bottom end grunt even when it’s not on top form, that having numerous temperature and pressure sensors can be confusing in the ‘heat of the moment’ but it is worth it when you have time to study them all and finally… that we need another trip to Jam Sport’s rolling road to find out where all of our power has gone!
